Men's Coveralls in Fashion

While viewing the latest menswear trends on websites like GQ.com and Style.com, I noticed a very interesting concept for Spring 2015: the men's coverall. Or as Style.com calls it, the "male onesie". I don't particularly like that name for it, but it is what it is. It was shown on designer runways like Louis Vuitton, Kenzo, and 3.1 Philip Lim.

AMI Spring/Summer 2015

I couldn't imagine ever wearing a coverall until now. Fashion changed my mind. Whenever I thought of one, it reminded me of tire shops and mechanics. Now, I see the appeal. It keeps your top half matching your bottom half, it easy to put on, it creates a complete look, and you can dress it up. You could high end accessories and layers to create a good mix of unconventional and stylish.  I'm sure there are other eccentric men like me who would love to tackle this trend. As for me, I'm digging around Automotiveworkwear.com and Dickies.com  looking for the perfect short-sleeved black coverall in a size Small.

Jil Sander Inspired Beanie Hat

In her Spring 2012 collection, Jil Sander presented a hat that fused today’s modern beanie with French veil netting. It was instantly popular among bloggers like BryanBoy and fashion journalists like Anna Dello Russo. Although this hat was released almost three years ago, I still believe that it is a fashion forward piece that can’t really be considered “last season”. In fact, I never liked the term “last season”, because fashion is meant to be WORN. And if you going to spend $440.00 for a beanie, then you should have the obligation to wear it as much and for as long as you like. This is of course one of my personal opinions.

However, I, being on a high school student’s salary, could not afford a $440.00 Jil Sander hat. So what did I do? I got creative (searched “DIY Jil Sander Hat” Google). I found one specific DIY Tutorial that I used, and I personally can’t tell the difference. So see for yourself below, the Jil Sander vs. my own homemade one.

Jil Sander Veiled Beanie: $440.00

My Own Veiled Beanie: $3.50 (for the materials)

Givenchy Spring/Summer 2015 Menswear Review

Black vs. White and Navy color palette? A giant deconstruction of an aircraft in the middle of the runway? Thigh-high brogue boots? Is there anything I don't love about Riccardo Tisci's vision for Spring/Summer Menswear at Givenchy? The answer is a big NO. I love everything. I love how this show opened up with redefined basics like the double breasted suit, and jumped to and from sportswear to cutting edge tailoring and printing. There was uber-masulinity mixed with a little bit of femininity, almost like a soft drizzle of sheer fabrics and embellishments. The first major print was the overall white with black cigarette burn looking blotches. Over the course of the show, those cigarettes burns reversed to look like bleach stains and morphed into paint splatters and later embellished flowers. The double breasted suit jackets and outerwear paired with suit shorts and collared shirts screamed "contemporary business wear". I also loved the contrasting slashes made to a few of the dress shirts and jackets. In fact, my absolute favorite look of this entire collection combines a white dress shirt slashed with a black "X", suit shorts, a large overcoat, and knee high leather boots all together. This look summarizes the silhouette of this collection as well as the color pallet, and its basics. Overall, as a reiteration, this collection combined great structured pieces that worked together. The basics (things like the double breasted blazers, suit shorts, white collared black dress shirts, etc.), the soft embellishments (like hand sewn pearls and other jewels onto a sheer top), and the bold, contrasting prints mixed to make a great collection for Givenchy Menswear.
